BYD has introduced a new flagship electric sedan in China, and the Da Han EV arrives with numbers that immediately grab attention. The large luxury-orientated sedan offers a claimed range of up to 1,008 km, as much as 764 hp, and a starting price of 249,900 yuan.
With the Da Han, BYD is taking a more direct aim at buyers looking for a premium electric sedan without paying the prices typically associated with established luxury brands. The model combines a large cabin, long-distance driving capability, powerful electric motors and a technology-heavy equipment list.
BYD Da Han EV Price in China
BYD has announced three Da Han EV variants for the Chinese market. The lineup starts with the RWD Premium, priced at 249,900 yuan. The RWD Flagship costs 269,900 yuan, while the range-topping AWD Flagship is priced at 299,900 yuan.
That translates to roughly $36,000-$44,000 before local taxes, depending on the exchange rate.
The two rear-wheel-drive versions focus on efficiency and deliver the model’s headline 1,008 km CLTC range. Buyers who want stronger performance can opt for the dual-motor AWD version, although its claimed range drops to 880 km.
BYD’s pricing makes the Da Han particularly interesting in China’s increasingly competitive premium EV market. Rather than relying solely on performance, the company has equipped the sedan with several features normally associated with much more expensive cars.
1,008 km Claimed Driving Range
The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the 1,008 km range.
The rear-wheel-drive Da Han uses a 102.3 kWh battery pack and achieves the 1,008 km figure under China’s CLTC testing standard. The AWD model retains the same battery capacity but achieves a lower 880 km rating because of its additional electric motor and higher performance.
It is important to remember that CLTC figures represent a laboratory test cycle and do not necessarily reflect what drivers will achieve on the road. Highway speeds, cold temperatures, air-conditioning use, heavy traffic and driving style can all reduce real-world range.
Still, a claimed range above 1,000 km gives the Da Han an obvious advantage on paper. It could appeal particularly strongly to Chinese buyers who regularly travel long distances between cities.
Fast Charging Adds to the Appeal
Long range is only useful if drivers can recharge the battery quickly. BYD has addressed that concern with its latest Flash Charging technology.
The company claims that the Da Han can recharge from 10% to 97% in around nine minutes under suitable charging conditions. If that performance translates effectively into real-world charging infrastructure, it could significantly reduce the amount of time owners spend at charging stations.
The technology also highlights BYD’s broader effort to make EV ownership more convenient rather than relying solely on larger batteries to solve range anxiety.
Up to 764 hp in the AWD Model
The Da Han is not just a long-range cruiser. Its most powerful version delivers serious performance.
The rear-wheel-drive models use a single electric motor producing around 496 hp. The AWD Flagship adds a front motor, bringing total system output to approximately 764 hp.
According to BYD’s claimed figures, the dual-motor model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 270 km/h.
That level of performance puts the Da Han firmly into performance-luxury territory. At the same time, its large dimensions and comfort-focused equipment suggest that BYD designed the car as much for effortless long-distance travel as for outright acceleration.
Large Dimensions and Luxury-Focused Design
The Da Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm high, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase.
Those dimensions give the sedan a substantial road presence while creating plenty of room for occupants. BYD has also given the model a distinctive interpretation of its latest Dragon Face design language, with slim lighting elements, a prominent front-end treatment and flush-style door handles.
Large wheels further emphasize the car’s flagship positioning, while the overall shape remains relatively clean rather than aggressively sporty.
Inside, BYD has taken a similar approach. The cabin combines multiple digital displays with premium materials and comfort-focused equipment. Available features include a head-up display, soft-close doors, wood trim and a high-end multi-speaker audio system.
Some versions can reportedly be equipped with as many as 31 speakers, while electrochromic rear windows add another luxury touch by allowing occupants to adjust the glass’s transparency.
LiDAR and Advanced Driver Assistance
Technology plays a major role in the Da Han’s equipment package.
The sedan features a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and BYD’s DiPilot 300 driver-assistance system, also referred to as God’s Eye B. The system provides advanced driving assistance, including navigation-related functions designed to help the driver manage certain parts of a journey.
As with other advanced driver-assistance systems, these features do not turn the car into a fully autonomous vehicle. Drivers must continue to monitor the road and remain ready to take control.
A New Flagship for BYD’s Dynasty Range
The Da Han represents an important step for BYD as it continues expanding beyond the mainstream EV market. The company already sells electric vehicles across several price categories, but the Da Han gives its Dynasty range a more substantial presence at the premium end of China’s sedan market.
BYD also plans to offer a plug-in hybrid version of the Da Han, although the company has not yet opened pre-sales for that model.
For now, the pure-electric Da Han stands out because of its combination of range, power and price. A starting price of 249,900 yuan puts the sedan within reach of buyers who may otherwise consider smaller premium EVs, while the flagship version adds the performance and technology expected from a high-end model.
BYD Da Han EV: What Makes It Significant?
The Da Han may ultimately prove important for BYD for reasons beyond its headline specifications. China’s EV market has become increasingly crowded, and manufacturers can no longer rely on battery range alone to attract buyers.
BYD is instead combining several selling points in one package: a 1,008 km claimed range, rapid charging, up to 764 hp, a spacious luxury cabin, air suspension, rear-wheel steering and advanced driver-assistance technology.
Whether the Da Han can establish itself as a genuine premium competitor will depend on its real-world performance, pricing after launch incentives and customer response. But on paper, BYD has created a flagship sedan that deserves attention.
For Chinese EV buyers, the Da Han offers something increasingly important: the ability to travel long distances without giving up performance, comfort or modern technology. And with its aggressive pricing, BYD may have given the premium electric sedan segment another model to watch closely.
